Risk of Another COVID-like Pandemic within 10 Years Remains High: Report

A predictive health analytics firm has warned that there is a 27.5% chance of a pandemic as deadly as COVID-19 occurring within the next decade due to factors such as climate change, international travel, and zoonotic diseases. However, if effective vaccines are rolled out within 100 days of the discovery of a new pathogen, the likelihood of a deadly pandemic drops to 8.1%. The firm also warned that a bird flu type virus that mutates to allow human-to-human transmission could kill as many as 15,000 people in the UK in a single day.
