Unvaccinated International Traveler Linked to Third Measles Case in Georgia

The Georgia Department of Public Health has confirmed a third case of measles in an unvaccinated individual who traveled internationally with a group of students. Health officials are working to identify and contact anyone who may have been exposed to the individual to prevent further spread of measles. The U.S. has seen an alarming increase in measles outbreaks, with 113 total cases reported as of April 5, 2024, and more than half of these cases resulting in hospitalization. The CDC attributes the rise in cases to unvaccinated Americans who traveled abroad and brought the disease home with them, emphasizing the importance of MMR vaccinations for all U.S. residents traveling internationally.
