COVID-19 Continues to Outpace Influenza in Deadliness.

A recent study published in the JAMA Journal compared the mortality rates associated with COVID-19 and seasonal influenza during the fall-winter season of 2022-2023. The mortality rate associated with COVID-19 among the veteran population during the study period continued to be higher than that of seasonal influenza infections. However, the deaths remain higher than those due to seasonal influenza. Primary and booster vaccines have considerably reduced COVID-19 mortality rates, highlighting the protective effects of the vaccines.
