The Neural Connection Between Singing and Speech

Contrary to previous belief, speech and singing are supported by overlapping brain circuits primarily located in the left hemisphere. A study challenges the notion that the right hemisphere supports singing ability in aphasia patients. The ability to produce sung words is tied to the left hemisphere's language network, specifically the ventral stream associated with understanding speech. These findings provide insights for personalized rehabilitation methods for aphasia patients and shed light on the evolution and overlap of speech and singing.
