"Understanding Dog Pneumonia in 2023: Key Facts to Know"

Experts are investigating a suspected outbreak of pneumonia in dogs in Oregon after five dogs in an animal sanctuary were sent to emergency rooms and one died. The Oregon Veterinary Medical Association is currently testing to determine the cause of the illness, and while some veterinary clinics have reported cases, there is no widespread increase in severe canine respiratory cases in the state. Pneumonia in dogs can have various causes, including viral or bacterial infections, aspiration of foreign material, or fungal infections. Symptoms of pneumonia in dogs include coughing, difficulty breathing, rapid breathing, wheezing, dehydration, fever, runny nose, loss of appetite, weight loss, and lethargy. Dog owners are advised to contact their veterinarian immediately if their dog displays any of these symptoms.
