Devastating Bird Flu Outbreak Claims Lives of Hundreds of Flamingos in Argentina

An outbreak of bird flu, specifically the H5N1 strain, has resulted in the deaths of 220 James's flamingos in north-western Argentina. The virus, which can infect an entire flock within days, has also been found in sea lions in the region. Local authorities have implemented measures to contain the spread of the virus and have warned residents not to touch any dead animals. The James's flamingo species is categorized as "near threatened" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
