Meta threatens news blackout in California over journalism bill.

California lawmakers advanced a bill that would require Big Tech platforms to pay publishers for news they host, just a day after Meta threatened to remove news from Facebook and Instagram should the bill pass. The California Journalism Preservation Act would require online platforms with at least 50 million monthly active U.S. users to pay a "usage fee" to eligible digital journalism providers who want it. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said the bill fails to recognize that publishers and broadcasters put their content on their platform themselves.
