Nike stated that it cares deeply about the community and is considering future locations as part of the area's revitalization plan. The company had previously offered to pay for off-duty police officers to enhance security at the store, but the proposal did not materialize. Portland, which voted to defund its police department in 2020, has been grappling with an increase in crime and drug use.
