Oregonians Embrace Self-Service Gas Stations After 72-Year Wait

After 72 years, self-service gasoline is now available throughout the state of Oregon, with House bill 2426 becoming law. While some residents are relieved to avoid waiting in line for attendants, others expressed concerns about job loss and difficulties for elderly or disabled drivers. The new law allows self-service gas at all hours in 20 counties, while the remaining 16 counties require attendants for at least 50% of their gas pumps. Signage indicating self-serve lanes and attendant availability is required, and prices must be the same in all lanes.
