Mississippi faces NAACP lawsuit over discriminatory policing.

The NAACP is suing Mississippi's governor and other officials over a policing law that would take control of the police and some courts out of the hands of residents, warning that "separate and unequal policing" will return to the state's majority-Black capital. The governor says the state-run Capitol Police can provide stability in the city, which has had more than 100 homicides in each of the past three years. The legislation was passed by a majority-white and Republican-controlled state House and Senate, while Jackson is governed by Democrats and about 83% of residents are Black.
