"NYC Settles for $13M with Black Lives Matter Protesters in Historic Class Action"

New York City has agreed to pay over $13 million to more than 1,000 Black Lives Matter protesters who were arrested or interacted with police during the 2020 protests following the death of George Floyd. The settlement, which still needs to be approved by a judge, is one of the most expensive payouts for mass arrests. The lawsuit focused on 18 protests in New York City and eligible individuals may receive $9,950 in compensation. Protesters involved in violence or seen blocking police from making arrests may be excluded from the settlement. The city and the NYPD are not required to admit any wrongdoing under the agreement.
