California Governor pledges state law enforcement support to combat fentanyl crisis in San Francisco.

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that the San Francisco Police Department and District Attorney Brooke Jenkins are partnering with the California National Guard and the California Highway Patrol to combat the city's fentanyl crisis. The partnership will provide more law enforcement resources and personnel to crack down on crime linked to the fentanyl crisis, holding the poison peddlers accountable, and increasing law enforcement presence to improve public safety and public confidence in San Francisco. Overdose deaths in the city jumped 40% between January and March of this year, and San Francisco had the second-highest rate of fentanyl-related deaths among large U.S. cities in 2020.
