Capitol Rioter Sentenced to 3 Years for Attempted Murder Charge

Matthew Beddingfield, a Jan. 6 defendant who stormed the Capitol while on bail for attempted murder, has been sentenced to over three years in federal prison. Beddingfield pleaded guilty to assaulting police with a flagpole during the Capitol attack. He was previously identified by online "Sedition Hunters" who connected him to a shooting incident in 2019. Despite evidence of his extremist beliefs, the judge focused on Beddingfield's conduct on Jan. 6 and sentenced him to prison. Beddingfield apologized for his actions and claimed he was caught up in the crowd. Over 1,000 people have been arrested in connection with the Capitol attack, with more than 300 already sentenced.
