A Chicago woman, Carlishia Hood, who was accused of telling her teenage son to shoot a man during a confrontation at a hot dog stand, is suing the city and members of its police force after murder charges against her and her son were dropped. Hood alleges false arrest, malicious prosecution, and emotional distress. Surveillance footage showed Hood being attacked by the man before her son intervened with a gun. Prosecutors dismissed the charges, stating they were unable to meet the burden of proof. A tort lawsuit has been filed, and a hearing is scheduled for August 31.
