The U.S. Coast Guard has issued an apology for covering up numerous cases of sexual assault and harassment at its academy between 1988 and 2006. An internal review, known as "Operation Fouled Anchor," revealed 62 incidents of rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment at the Coast Guard Academy, with an additional 42 cases that were never properly investigated. The Coast Guard's failure to take appropriate action at the time of the assaults and the lack of disciplinary measures against perpetrators have sparked outrage.
