Escaped Death Row Inmate Executed for Woman's Murder in Oklahoma

Oklahoma executed death row inmate Jemaine Cannon for the 1995 murder of a Tulsa woman after his escape from a prison work center. Cannon, who had been serving a 15-year sentence for a violent assault, stabbed the victim to death with a butcher knife. His last-minute appeal seeking a stay of execution was denied, and he was pronounced dead 12 minutes after receiving a lethal injection. Cannon claimed self-defense, but his clemency plea was rejected. This was the second execution in Oklahoma this year and the ninth since the state resumed lethal injections.
