Florida seeks death penalty for couple accused of locking four children in tractor-trailer cab

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier says his office will seek the death penalty for Keisha Epps and Tamra Stewart, accused of sexually abusing four children and imprisoning them in the cab of a tractor-trailer for nearly seven years. The four children—two girls and two boys aged 5, 6, and 9—were allegedly deprived of education, medical care, and basic needs, kept in a bunk with no time for showers or bathroom use, and subjected to years of abuse including sexual battery and neglect. If convicted of sexual battery against a child under 12, Florida law allows the death penalty. The suspects were arrested Aug. 6 and remain jailed in Duval County, facing multiple counts including sexual battery, molestation, neglect, and failure to report abuse.
