Former Connecticut Lawmaker Headed to Federal Prison for Stealing $1.2M in COVID Funds

Former Connecticut lawmaker, Michael DiMassa, is set to report to federal prison after being sentenced to 27 months for stealing $1.2 million in COVID relief and other funds. DiMassa pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and is required to pay restitution, serve five years of supervised release, and perform community service. He must also participate in gambling addiction and mental health treatment programs. DiMassa conspired with others to submit fraudulent invoices for COVID relief goods and services that were never provided. His wife, Lauren DiMassa, also pleaded guilty and served six months in prison. Other individuals involved in the scheme have also been sentenced.
