Former Mississippi officers admit guilt in torturing Black men

Six former white law enforcement officers in Mississippi pleaded guilty to state charges for physically and verbally abusing two black men in a racist attack that included a 90-minute torture session. The officers, known as "the Goon Squad," entered a home without a warrant, handcuffed, punched, and verbally abused the victims with racist slurs. They tasered the men, poured milk and alcohol over their faces, and assaulted one with a sword. One officer performed a mock execution by putting a gun in a victim's mouth, breaking his jaw when it discharged. The officers pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and conspiracy to hinder prosecution and face sentences ranging from five to 15 years. These sentences will run concurrently with federal sentences they are expected to receive in November.
