Investigation Launched into Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez's Wife's Fatal Car Crash

The New Jersey attorney general's office has launched an investigation into the handling of a 2018 car crash involving the now-wife of Democratic Senator Bob Menendez. Nadine Menendez, who was dating the senator at the time, fatally struck a pedestrian who was jaywalking and had drugs and alcohol in his system. Despite muffled audio suggesting the presence of alcohol, police did not test Nadine for drugs or alcohol and allowed her to leave without a summons. The investigation comes as federal prosecutors have indicted Senator Menendez, his wife, and three businessmen in a bribery scheme, with allegations that one of the businessmen replaced Nadine's totaled car from the crash with a $60,000 Mercedes. Nadine's lawyer maintains that she was not at fault in the accident.
