Joran van der Sloot maintains innocence in Natalee Holloway case.

Joran van der Sloot, who was previously linked to the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway in 2005, has pleaded not guilty to extortion and fraud charges in Alabama. He had been serving a prison sentence in Peru for the 2010 murder of a Peruvian student. Van der Sloot was indicted by a federal grand jury in Alabama for trying to extort $250,000 from Natalee's mother for information about her daughter's death and whereabouts of her body. If found guilty, he will first return to Peru to complete his sentence before serving time in the US.
