Madison man dies after police-involved shooting on near east side

A man in his 30s died after a confrontation with Madison police in the Marquette neighborhood. After officers pursued him on a bicycle, a struggle ensued near Baldwin and Williamson streets during which he pulled a large fixed‑blade knife and injured an officer; a Taser failed and an officer fired, killing him. Four officers were on scene; the injured officer and another officer were hurt. The DOJ Division of Criminal Investigation will handle the investigation, and all involved officers have been placed on administrative leave.
