Massive Fentanyl Seizures in San Francisco Could Wipe Out Entire Population Multiple Times Over

The California Highway Patrol has seized over 4.2 kilograms of fentanyl in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood and surrounding areas since May 1, enough to potentially kill 2.1 million people. The operation also resulted in the seizure of other drugs and 92 felony and misdemeanor arrests. The joint public safety operation aims to target fentanyl trafficking and disrupt the supply of the deadly drug in the city. Fentanyl is the leading driver of drug overdose deaths in the United States and in San Francisco, where 72% of the 620 accidental overdose deaths in 2022 were attributed to the drug.
