Prior Abusive History of Man Who Shot 6-Year-Old Over Stray Basketball

The man who shot a 6-year-old girl and her parents over a stray basketball in North Carolina had previously been arrested for beating his girlfriend with a sledgehammer and holding her captive. He was released on bond four months before the shooting. There is no law in North Carolina requiring the removal or surrender of firearms from the scene of a domestic violence incident or prohibiting people convicted of domestic violence misdemeanors from purchasing or possessing guns or ammunition. The shooter now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm.
