'Rust' Assistant Director and Safety Coordinator Sentenced in Movie Set Shooting Case

David Halls, the "Rust" assistant director who handled the gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon. Actor Alec Baldwin and the independent movie's original armorer, Hanna Gutierrez-Reed, are both charged with manslaughter over Hutchins' death. Halls is the first person held criminally accountable in Hutchins' death. The New Mexico judge overseeing the "Rust" case sentenced Halls to six months of unsupervised probation, a $500 fine and 24 hours of community service. Preliminary hearings for Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed are expected to start in early May.
