Sentences Handed Down for Jan. 6 Capitol Riot Involvement

A West Jordan man, Justin D. Adams, has been sentenced to 17 months in prison for assaulting police during the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. Adams admitted to charging a police line, striking an officer, throwing a water bottle, and helping pull a barricade. Prosecutors highlighted his social media posts expressing intent to harm politicians and his lack of cooperation with the FBI. Adams' attorney requested a sentence of the eight months he had already served, but he will likely receive credit for that time. Adams claimed a brain injury and belief in a stolen election as factors that led him to participate in the riot.
