Ted Kaczynski, known as the "Unabomber," died by suicide at the age of 81 in a federal prison in North Carolina. Kaczynski was serving four life sentences plus 30 years for a 17-year bombing campaign that killed three people and injured 23 others. He had been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic but refused to plead insanity.
