Virginia Mom Sentenced to Prison for Child Neglect After Son Shoots Teacher

The Virginia mother of a six-year-old boy who shot his teacher with her gun has been sentenced to two years in prison and banned from contacting her child until he turns 18. Deja Nicole Taylor, 25, was charged with felony child neglect after her son shot his first-grade teacher in January. Taylor had previously pled guilty to using marijuana while owning a gun and was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison on felony gun charges. The critically wounded teacher has filed a lawsuit against the school district, alleging gross negligence by administrators who ignored warnings about the child's troubling behavior and the presence of a gun in his backpack.
