Mississippi Transgender Teen Barred from Wearing Dress at Graduation

A federal judge ruled that a Mississippi transgender high school student cannot wear a dress to her graduation ceremony, causing her to miss the event. The school district had a dress code policy that required girls to wear a white dress and dress shoes, and boys to wear a white button-down shirt, black dress pants, black dress shoes, and a tie or bowtie. The teen and her parents filed a lawsuit against the Harrison County School District, but the judge denied their motion for a temporary restraining order. The ACLU of Mississippi criticized the ruling, saying it "casts shame and humiliation" on a day that should be focused on "joy and pride."
