New Jersey Poll Reveals Strong Support for Parental Notification on Student Gender Identity

A poll conducted by Monmouth University reveals that a majority of New Jerseyans support parental notification when it comes to their child's gender identity expressed in public schools. The data shows that 77% of respondents believe that middle and high schools should be required to inform parents if their child wants to be identified as a different gender. The percentage increases to 81% among parents and 92% among Republicans. The findings come after the state Attorney General's emergency lawsuits against three school districts, which resulted in a temporary injunction blocking district policies that required parental notification. Additionally, the poll shows that a majority of parents believe transgender students should use facilities that correspond with their biological sex, but also support the establishment of gender-inclusive spaces.
