3M to pay $10B settlement for 'forever chemicals' water pollution lawsuit.

3M has agreed to pay $10.3 billion to settle a lawsuit with US public water suppliers over the presence of PFAs, or "forever chemicals," in their drinking water. The settlement will provide funding for public water suppliers nationwide that have detected PFAs in drinking water, as well as for eligible PWS that may detect PFAS at any level in the future. PFAS have been associated with serious health conditions, including cancer and reduced birth weight, and are used in nonstick frying pans, water-repellent sports gear, stain-resistant rugs, and countless other consumer products.
