New York Governor Kathy Hochul has warned that the air quality in the state will worsen this week due to wildfire smoke from Canada. The Air Quality Index (AQI) could reach "unhealthy" levels in certain areas, including western and central New York. Hochul has asked high-risk populations to avoid the outdoors on Wednesday and directed her team to start the cell phone alert system to inform people in problem areas. New York City Mayor Eric Adams also issued a warning, saying that the five boroughs could see worse air quality starting Wednesday.
