A federal appeals court has temporarily blocked a Texas judge's decision to suspend the US government's approval of a key abortion medication nationwide. The court's decision maintains mifepristone's availability for now, though the judges declined to pause another part of the Texas ruling that said the FDA wrongly expanded access to the abortion drug. Mifepristone is used in more than half of all abortions in the United States and has emerged as a crucial piece in the battle over abortion rights since the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year. Ultimately, the issue of access to mifepristone is likely to be decided by the Supreme Court.
