California Takes Action to Provide Affordable Insulin at $30

California is partnering with nonprofit generic drug manufacturer CIVICA to manufacture its own insulin and cap the cost at $30, bringing the price down by around 90%. The move follows an executive order signed by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019 aimed at bringing down the cost of prescription drugs. The state is also planning to manufacture its own naloxone, a drug used to counteract the effects of an opioid overdose. Drug companies like Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, and Sanofi have also recently announced price cuts for their insulin products.
