A ban on health care for young transgender patients has taken effect in Florida, stopping minors from getting any kind of gender affirmation surgery or hormone therapy. The only exception applies to minors who already began one of those courses of treatment. Some LGBTQ+ advocates argue it is safe and not getting gender-affirming care can be more detrimental to the mental health of transgender youth, with possible risks of suicide.
