Drug manufacturer hires lobbyists to advocate for Medicare coverage of weight loss medication.

Novo Nordisk, the maker of weight loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy, has hired law and lobbying firm Arnold & Porter to lobby for Medicare coverage of anti-obesity medications. Bipartisan lawmakers introduced legislation last Congress that would offer Medicare coverage for these drugs, but they have not reintroduced it. Novo Nordisk spent a total of $4.6 million on lobbying the federal government last year, and $1.3 million in the first three months of 2023.
