"Long-awaited Memorial Honors Victims of Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire"

A memorial has been unveiled in New York City to commemorate the victims of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire that occurred in 1911, killing 146 workers, mostly young immigrant women. The memorial, located at the building that once housed the factory, features stainless-steel plates bearing the victims' names and ages, as well as survivor and eyewitness testimony. The event drew descendants of the victims and public officials, highlighting the significance of the fire in galvanizing the U.S. labor movement and promoting worker protections. A second phase of the memorial will be completed in the winter, featuring a stainless steel ribbon reaching up to the ninth floor, from which many workers jumped to their deaths.
