DeSantis Signs Bills Addressing Affordable Housing and Education in Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Live Local Act, which will provide $711m in funding for affordable housing programs and offer tax breaks to incentivize developers. The law will also supersede local zoning requirements for affordable housing in commercial or mixed-use areas and strip local municipalities' ability to enact rent control. The funding includes $259m for the State Apartment Incentive Loan program, $252m for the State Housing Initiatives Program, $100m for a competitive loan program, and $100m for the Florida Hometown Heroes Housing Program. The Live Local Act also increases tax credits for affordable housing and provides a sales tax refund for building materials used in affordable housing units.
