42 Years Later, Stolen Son Embraces Chilean Mother in Heartwarming Reunion

After being stolen from his mother at birth and told he had died, Jimmy Lippert Thyden, a Chilean-born adoptee, was reunited with his birth family in Valdivia, Chile, 42 years later. Thyden's journey to find his birth family began with the help of a Chilean nonprofit organization, Nos Buscamos. The organization estimates that tens of thousands of babies were taken from Chilean families in the 1970s and 1980s. Thyden's DNA test confirmed his Chilean heritage, and he was able to connect with his birth mother and siblings. While Thyden's reunion was successful, he acknowledges that not all adoptees have the same outcome and calls for recognition and change in the adoption system.
