Escalating Tensions: Chinese Balloons Intrude Taiwan's Territory

Two Chinese balloons were detected flying north of Taiwan, crossing the sensitive Taiwan Strait, as China increases pressure on the self-ruled territory ahead of the upcoming presidential election. This is the second time this month that Taiwan has reported a Chinese balloon near its territory. China has been sending military aircraft and warships near Taiwan almost daily, and the front-runner in the upcoming election, Vice President William Lai, has been criticized by Beijing as a "separatist." Taiwan split from China in 1949, but Beijing still considers it Chinese territory and has been escalating its threats to achieve reunification.
