Family of Tyre Nichols sues Memphis and police officers in federal civil lawsuit.

The family of Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man who died after being brutally beaten by Memphis police officers following a traffic stop in January, has filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Memphis and its police department. The lawsuit alleges that the fatal beating was the result of unconstitutional policies, practices, customs, and deliberate indifference of the city and its police officials. Five police officers were fired and indicted on criminal charges, and the SCORPION unit they were part of was permanently deactivated. The US Department of Justice is reviewing the Memphis Police Department, and a seventh police officer has been fired.
