Fatal Outcome: Man Dies in Transit under Milwaukie Police Custody

A man died while being transported by Milwaukie police officers to a mental health clinic after he refused to leave a hospital emergency room. The man, who was discharged from the ER and offered a ride to a shelter, was determined to be unable to care for himself and placed on a peace-officer hold. While en route to the clinic, the man became unconscious and despite life-saving efforts, he passed away. The Portland Police Bureau's Major Crimes Team is investigating the incident.
