San Jose Officer Fired for Racist Texts and Controversial Police Shooting

A San Jose police officer, Mark McNamara, has been fired after sending racially biased and derogatory messages, including expressing hatred towards Black people. The messages were discovered during an unrelated investigation into the shooting of a college student. McNamara had been with the department for six years and was involved in the shooting incident. The San Jose Police Chief, Anthony Mata, stated that there is zero tolerance for racial bias within the department and that an internal investigation is ongoing. Another employee who received some of the messages has been placed on administrative leave pending investigation. Criminal charges related to the messages have not been filed at this time.
