Justice Dept. Slams Trump Lawyers for Delaying Documents Case

Federal prosecutors have accused former President Donald Trump's lawyers of intentionally delaying his trial on charges of mishandling classified material and obstructing justice. The prosecutors claim that Trump's legal team is using an arcane law to derail the trial's scheduled start in May. The timing of the trial is particularly contentious as it competes with Trump's three other criminal trials set to begin in March. Prosecutors are concerned that if Trump is re-elected, he may try to pardon himself or have charges dismissed. Trump's lawyers have repeatedly sought to slow the proceedings, requesting trial dates after the 2024 election and even as far as April 2026.
