Massachusetts State Police trooper dies in Route 1 wrong-way crash in Lynnfield

A Massachusetts State Police trooper, Kevin Trainor (30), was killed when his cruiser was struck by a wrong-way driver on Route 1 in Lynnfield, MA, as he was on his way home from work; the other driver also died. Trainor, who joined the MSP in 2023 after working as a corrections officer with the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, is survived by his mother, fiancée, and siblings. Gov. Maura Healey called him a hero, and investigators have not released the wrong-way driver’s identity; the crash remains under investigation.
