Sorrento Valley brush fire triggers evacuations and road closures

A brush fire in San Diego’s Sorrento Valley began around 9:20 a.m. near Vista Sorrento Parkway and Sorrento Valley Boulevard, quickly spreading to at least 80 acres and prompting mandatory evacuations for multiple zones while authorities closed Sorrento Valley Boulevard and set up a temporary evacuation point at Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park; evacuations were later expanded to include the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve and surrounding homes as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
