
Rapid Sorrento Valley brush fire drives evacuations in San Diego
A fast-moving brush fire in San Diego's Sorrento Valley near Penasquitos Creek grew to about 131 acres with zero containment by late afternoon, prompting evacuations around 3:30 p.m. A large response including four engines, brush rigs, two helicopters, Cal Fire aircraft, bulldozers, and a Type 3 Strike Team supported by police traffic control; an evacuation center was set up at Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park. By 5:45 p.m. containment was about 15%, with crews aiming to halt forward spread and address hotspots overnight; the cause is under investigation.
