US and Canada to provide military aid and training to Ukraine

Ukrainian troops will begin training on American-made Abrams tanks in Germany in the next few weeks, with 31 tanks arriving at the Grafenwoehr Training Area by mid-to-late May. The training is expected to take up to 10 weeks and will include instruction on how to maneuver in combat. The U.S. is accelerating the delivery of the tanks by opting to send older M1A1 versions, rather than the newer M1A2 type originally planned to go to Ukraine. The move is part of a larger effort by the Ukraine Defense Contact Group to support Kyiv against Russia’s all-out assault.
