US Defense Leaders Discuss Ukraine Counteroffensive and NATO's Future

The Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russian forces is making steady progress, according to Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. While Ukraine has sustained some losses of armored vehicles, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Russia is overplaying those losses and that Ukraine continues to have "a lot of combat capability." The counteroffensive is in the early stages and it's too soon to make any definitive assessments, but Milley said the US-trained Ukrainian forces are fighting machines with 12 maneuver battalions.
