Maryland hunter charged after fatal mistaken-deer shooting in Delaware field

A Maryland hunter, 74-year-old Walter Moorhead of Salisbury, was charged with manslaughter, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment after Delaware State Police say he shot a 39-year-old woman whom he mistook for a deer in an Ellendale field; the victim, Maria Chilel Soto of Georgetown, died after being taken to a hospital. Moorhead was arrested at the scene and released on a $43,000 cash bond as investigators continue to probe the incident.
